7 Best synthesizers for production | 100% of producers use these!

Before I will talk to you about these synthesizers, what are synthesizers? They produce different sounds by using the different knobs. Learning what each knob does is crucial if you want to learn to make your own leads, saws and basses. Each of the synths I will talk in a simple form and expand.

EDM:

1. Spire

This plugin is great if your interested in making trance, the presets are unique and fit trance so well. If you look on third party sites which sell preset banks for spire, you will definitely find many banks for trance and other genres. Plucks and sequencers are unique to this plugin. I also have used this plugin for Psytrance, The bass presets are a go to.

Price: $189 USD

2. Serum

Serum is a great plugin and has a great option to choose for affordance. This plugin is much more visual, unique and modern. Supersaws sound more modern for this era. Leads are loud and are nice for pop, edm and subgenres of edm. I have seen so many producers use this plugin for supersaws, gritty basslines and unique leads. This synth is great because it is one of the first synths that are visual.

Price: Full: $189 USD Monthly: $10/month

3. Nexus 3

Nexus has come a long way. It's a great time to pick this plugin up because of the new way to install it and more sounds it has! In Nexus 2, it had many problems. Mainly the usb dongle which was a big setback, if it broke you would have to buy Nexus again. Nexus 3 tho completely changed that! No dongles and now more control over this rompler! This plugin does come with expensive expansions if you are looking to buy them ($50). They come with some real classic and quality sounds which mainstream leads and artists use!

Cost: $199

What is a rompler?

A rompler in simple terms is a vst/plugin which isn't a synthesizer(cannot be used for sound design). More information: You wont be able to make your own custom presets, you can use the sounds which come stock with the plugin or buy custom ones from sites or the official site.

Trap beat plugins:

1. Purity

Purity is great for old style music, trap beats and 80s type vibe. In the recent years(2019, 2020) we have seen this rompler blow up and been used by producers. What I like most about this plugin is the basses. The old style sounds give it a unique appeal to producers.

Cost: $49 USD

2. Omnisphere

This is one of the big boys, Omnisphere is a beast synth and huge in many genres. Mainly you will hear about it in trap and hip hop. Many mainstream songs have this synths sounds included. The price is really hefty.

Cost: $499 USD

3. Xpand 2

Xpand 2 is a rompler which I have used for over 3 months as my main plugin. There are many website which make presets for it. You can combing different sounds together to make them more unique. It's not a synth but gives you nice customizability in volume control, panning, etc.

Cost: $8+ (Varies)

Mention

 Flex

Flex is a synth which is free with FL Studio! If you have FL, I would recommend checking this synth out for yourself! I have used many of the basses myself. They are great for transitions in trap beats, hip hop, etc.

How to build around melodies in FL Studio

Making melodies is tough and are hard to make. In this post I will try to help you pass the stress of melodies! Lets get into it. The first thing you have to do is make a simple melody that is catchy and a little ignorant in a good way. Once you have your base foundation of your melody start adding notes on the top of the melody or the bottom. Like this: Then add base notes. The base notes make the melody feel alive. Make the base notes with no rhythm, just for the foundation of the root notes. Once you got your root notes, start to play with them and make a rhythm. And maybe change the notes in between.

How to make your drop hit harder and bouncy!

Making a drop can be stressful when the drop comes and it doesn't feel like there's any groove. The drop is one of the best parts of a song and what a lot of people love! There are many different ways to make a drop feel great so in this blog post I will show you some ways to make your tracks hit harder on the drops! Here are 3 ways you can improve your drops: The first way is using your bass. Make the bass have a different rhythm than the chords and melody. The second way to make your drop hit harder is stacking layers in the lead where the frequencies are filled in from the high to the low but not where it sounds muddy. The kick and bass fill in the low end mostly. The third way to make your drop hit hard is add effects and fills. Whenever you feel there is emptiness is a certain part of the track add a drum fill or a reverse. Adding fills to a track adds variety.
